The walls of the McNeal Pavilion are packed with photos of SOU’s student-athletes of the past decades. There is no space for more. So in what was likely my last photo opportunity in McNeal today, I took some photos for the future building that will be taking its place in fall of 2016.

The outdoor, spring dual may not have all of the intensity of an in-season dual against a real opponent, but from a photographic standpoint, I like it. I can shoot with a fast shutter speed and low ISO unlike the indoor duals. Friday’s wrestling contest was almost moved indoors with the rain, but a sunny afternoon allowed things to go on as planned.

This will be the final dual in McNeal’s Riehm Arena. It will also be the first dual for SOU women’s wrestling. An intrasquad will take place on 11/4/15 so it won’t be the first time you can see SOU women’s wrestling. After 11/6/15 wrestling (basketball, volleyball, etc.) will take place at Ashland High School until the new facility is complete in 2017.

Southern Oregon had 6 women wrestlers compete in the WCWA Women’s Nationals 2016 this weekend. Other than the Raiders, no team with fewer than 10 wrestlers finished in the top 14. The 10 teams that finished above the Raiders averaged over 18 wrestlers per team! For a first year program, the results really couldn’t have been much more impressive.
